Ranting again.

Life has been a little more eventful than usual for me. I finally started my long-term sub position full time. And I have something I hate to admit: teaching middle school PE is...boring. Yup, I said it. Boring. It's fun to watch the kids get excited and enjoy physical activity, but sitting on the sidelines, refereeing, and watching indoor kickball is so far pretty damn uneventful. Makes me think maybe I should have gotten my degree in kinesiology instead. Hmmm. Good news is that they don't mind me spending my planning time and lunch studying for that dreaded GRE that I'm still putting off.

What has been nice is that I actually taught some of the 6th graders when they were fourth graders and I was their EC teacher. (that's Exceptional Children, the North Carolina PC term for special needs) It's been nice to know a few of the children in the huge mass of 50 or so in each class. Of course, I get a little sad thinking that I used to be a teacher, not a sub. There are many moments throughout the day that I think, "Man, I should go back to teaching full time." But then I see the regular teachers running around like crazy people trying to get things done and remember why I'm okay with taking a backseat for now.

Gorilla is still working ridiculously long hours. I hate that his new job is making us despise the Marine Corps. I hate that his job includes the responsibility of babysitting grown men. Take for example how he spent his Saturday (his only day of relaxation throughout the week) Due to the "tropical storm" Hanna, (which was mild in comparison the the usual thunder storms we get around here) they had to enact a recall roster on Saturday to make sure everyone was accounted for. Of course it wasn't that easy. For some reason, there were many, many Marines and Corpsman that no one could contact. So this meant that Gorilla had to stress about accountability for the ENTIRE day. We already had plans to see a movie, and he knew I was going to be bummed if we had to stay home just for phone tag, so he relunctantly went. He had to leave FIVE times throughout the movie to answer calls. By midnight that night, there were still may men unaccounted for. Point is, even on the weekends he is living and breathing this stupid job.

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand that there are a lot of responsibilities involved with this new position. I also understand that the military is an entirely different kind of lifestyle and career. However, civilian life is looking way more appealing as each day passes. I'd love for him to have a job that would allow him to enjoy at least one day of his week. I'd also love for him to have a job where he doesn't have to account for every minute and detail of everyone elses life. Life is too short for this crap.

I've already been home for two hours and won't expect him home for another hour or two at least. So I'm going to go throw myself a pity party right now, which may include a cold Corona or two.

Party on! It's a lot to deal with. I loathe the 2 a.m. phone calls those are the worst.
