I finally had two interviews this week.
Ironically, they are for two applications that I put in very, very recently. None of the gagillion that I've done throughout the year have paid off yet. These two were very unexpected.
One of my very best friends that I shared a trailer with during my first year of teaching came to visit me this past week. As we were eating at our favorite local sandwich/coffee place discussing me not working, our old teacher's assistant walked in with another t.a. we worked with. What a small world. It was an awesome catch-up session. As chance would have it, I got a call for an interview as we were talking about my unemployment.
That afternoon, as I was trying on the many, many, many pairs of black pants I own to find one that fit, I got another call for another interview at a school on base. What luck. My luck ran out about four minutes later, however, when I realized that NONE of my pants fit. Yeah, so much for the trying to eat better. It was quite depressing to realize that I could not fit in any of my pants. (I'm not exaggerating when I say I have many, many pairs of black pants. They were my staple when I taught and subbed. So sad that they didn't fit) So of course we had to go shopping. I hate spending money on dress clothes. I'd much rather buy jeans and t-shirts and flip-flops.
The bad news with the interviews: I've received no feedback yet. Both are for teacher's assistant positions. The on-base interview was in front of a panel of 3 people, to include the head of the Special Education department. Talk about nerves. They didn't seem impressed. Maybe it was because I replied "no" to the questions "Would you be comfortable changing diapers and dealing with feeding tubes?"
So for now I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping something works out. And missing my friend desperately again. I wish she didn't live so far away.

Fingers crossed.
