The holidays have come and gone. I tried to make the best of them despite Gorilla being gone.
Now the only thing between now and the time he comes home is my b-day, but I'll survive that too.
My friends Slush and Aviator helped us fufill our good deed for the year. (according to Slush- we are all set for the rest of the year because of this) We found a dog near a busy highway- one who was super sweet and friendly and excited to see me. She had a collar on and a name. So we took her home (they for a half a day, me until today) and tried to find her owner. Bad news was Marley (my beagle) did nothing but howl at her. So we were desperate- we needed to find her owner or make the sad, sad decision to take her to the pound. (which I really, really didn't want to have to do because it IS NOT a humane society)
We made plans to meet this morning (with said dog) and knock on the doors of the neighborhood near where we found her. (although I don't know if five trailers and four old houses constitutes a neighborhood) After three non-answers, and 2 old ladies with no teeth giving us blank stares, we almost gave up when we gave one more try at the last trailer on the street. And luck have it- it was her home. Two kids greeted us at the door to claim her.
So that was our good deed. And I am so unbelievably relieved that we didn't have to take her to the pound. I had hopes that she would be adopted, but that wasn't a risk I wanted to take. Now she is happy with her family, and my Marley is finally able to come back home. :)
Still counting down the days until Gorilla comes home, which is very, very soon... (Although I'm a little relieved that he wasn't home during this dog-resuce. He's such a dog lover that I know he would have talked me in to keeping her)
Here's a pic of the cutie we were able to reunite with her family:
