Because we live in our own home smack in the middle of a neighborhood full of locals, it's easy for me to forget that we are here only because of the Marine Corps.
This is the first duty station we've had that I really am immersed in civilian life, and have learned to integrate myself and love the area.
We are within walking distance of the beach, walking distance to regular shops, restaurants, bars, and grocery stores. Our neighbors are all locals who grew up on this street.
And I love every second of it. It's really going to be hard in 2012 when we have to decide whether to shit or get off of the pot.
I almost love Hawaii as much as I love my husband. And that says a lot.

1 thought(s) about it:
thats the way it is at our duty station, I feel like we live a split life, part of it in total civilian life and then there is the elephant in the room the usmc.
