Signs?

I've been having a lot of dreams lately about teaching. Most of them involve me, unprepared, trying to teach a large group of students how to write an essay of some sort. Usually I'm not dressed appropriately or can't speak. (I have lots of dreams of this nature)

It seems like I'm constantly reminded of my decision to quit teaching. I still get teaching publications in my mailbox. I still get emails from old co-workers. I continually get updates on teaching jobs available.

And if that's not bad enough, my Quick Picks on Amazon still shows books such as this and this. Yes, I love being reminded of what I left behind every day when I view the daily deals on Amazon.

I also can't get over the habit of wanting to buy teaching materials. I will not allow myself to go to the dollar section at Target for the next two months because they have so many awesome cheap teaching supplies right now. Why do I do that? I don't need that stuff. But it's hard to break old habits.

I try not to think about it. I'm trying to pursue other career avenues, but for some reason I keep getting pulled towards teaching. Is someone or something trying to tell me something? Is that what I really should be doing? I know I was a good teacher. It's not that I couldn't hack it. It was just taking too many years off of my life. I made a conscience decision that I was not going to be like my co-workers, who after 20-30 years of teaching were absolutely miserable in their personal lives but completely content with their professional ones. I didn't think the pros outweighed the cons. I miss teaching. I miss the students. I miss the impact that I know I made. But I'm trying so desperately not to go back.

Am I ignoring all the signs? Or should I stick with what my heart tells me is right?

OMG, I have had a window open to respond to your post for like 5 days. Urk!

Anyway, I wanted to say that I don't think you should read too much into dreams when it comes to making big life choices. Or habits. You know you've made a decision, but you just need to give yourself some more time to make the switch in your habits.

Also, I sense that you're really looking for a school librarian job, in which case you will be back to teaching the kiddos soon enough. But you will just get to do the fun stuff, and not the mind-bending hours upon hours that it takes to have your own classroom.

*hugs*
