Can't stop whining.

Gorilla has been gone for a week or two, as usual it seems, to do some more workups for the deployment.

On the positive side, it's the LAST one before he leaves.

On the negative side, that means he will be leaving soon.

What's funny (or sad really) about these past two times he's been on a ship is that it is the longest we've ever gone without hearing from each other.

Which is saying a lot because we had a 2 year long distance relationship, and survived a 13 month deployment. But as difficult as those times were, this has been the hardest struggle of all for me. Just because I get no phone calls or emails. I have NO IDEA how he is doing, what's going on.

And I'm struggling because I just want to be able to talk to him. I want to be able to tell him about my day, find out what's going on with him, ask him questions about our upcoming move, and basically just have some form of communication with my best friend.

This really sucks. He promises that it will be different when the deployment is actually underway. But not to be the usual pessimistic me, I'll believe it when I see it. (or hear it as in a phone call or two)

So did anyone else have as much difficulty with lack of communication when their S/O was on a ship? Because I'm going to be a real whiny bitch during the deployment if this is the norm.

I can't whine too much though. Seems he found some sort of loophole that allows him to chat for a few minutes on facebook with me late at night. The connection isn't the greatest and he gets kicked off continually- but it's SOMETHING. I told him to keep his secret find to himself. As bitchy and selfish as it is- I'm so worried that everyone on the ship will start to do the same and then someone will decide it's causing too much back up or a risk to OPSEC and will ban everyone from facebook. So for now I'm happy with our little secret. I will take whatever I can get at this point.

So only one more week until I can actually see him in person and talk away until I'm at a loss for words. But until then I'll continue to whine. I think it's just intensified these past few days because I'm sick AGAIN (thanks to all of the snotty nosed wonderful preschoolers I'm around everyday) and it makes me really crabby- especially when I don't have my wonderful guy to get me water and tissues in the middle of the night. Ah, the wonderful things he does for me...

Flyboy has never been on a ship (he was smart enough to find a plane that couldnt fit on one!) but we frequently go without communication on trips, especially when hes OCONUS. And when he was deployed to Iraq the first couple times it was the start of the war and it was a lot different. I think I heard from him via phone three times the entire time and internet was spotty to say the least. That all being said, it sucks but as you get thru the first week or two it gets easier. I think. I do find that I'll reach for the phone to call him and get bummed b/c I cant. There's no where to call. I also find it helps to just send off a quick email with what I'm thinking or have to ask, that way I dont forget later. 15 short emails might annoy him but it helps my sanity.

Good luck, it stinks, but it all goes with that glorious pay check and hot uniform. : )

I hear ya. My husband is on his last boat work up before the up coming deployment too. We don't get to talk. (although sometimes he'll text while i the air). I guess when the deployment starts he said there's some sort of phone to use. We do get to email which helps a lot. Good luck with everything. Hopefully communication will be better when they're underway.
