Almost Thanksgiving Already??!

I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving already. Luckily it's getting a little cooler here so I can actually wear a long sleeve shirt to work without sweating like I'm menopausal. Seriously, we've had some strange weather lately. And I love wearing sweaters. I'm excited to pull out my winter clothes and actually be able to justify my comfy sweaters!

The hubs is gone again. He'll be back next week but until then I'm going through the whole mini-version of getting sad about him being gone, getting used to being alone, then readjusting to him returning. I love him and miss him terribly when he's gone but sometimes it's just poor torture.

Warning: here's another military rant. I hate how many workups they have to do to get ready for a deployment. It feels like they start them as soon as the return home from a deployment. If you add up all the field time, late nights, and weekends they have to work to get ready to deploy, it's almost an entire deployment in itself. My hubby has been home (as in on US soil) for nine months, but he's gone sporadically throughout getting ready for his next deployment. It sucks.

And the icing on the cake? He'll be gone for my birthday AGAIN and our anniversary. Yay for timing. At least he's home. At least he's home. At least he's home. I don't ever forget that. But pretty soon he won't be and I'll probably just be even more pissed about all the time he was gone when he was "home." It's a no win situation. "It's all part of being a military spouse!" Sometimes I want to tell people who say that to stick it somewhere very dark and not appropriate.

I know what "being a military spouse" is supposed to be about. It's been my life for 26 years. I guess I'm just getting really tired of it. First it was missing my dad, and now it's my husband. I don't know how much longer I can suck it up and smile.

And to all you ladies preparing for beautiful Christmas decorations, ornaments, and trees- I envy you. Because of our trip to Hawaii for the holidays, we won't be able to decorate this year. But I'd much rather have my trip to Hawaii. Which, by the way, almost got canceled because of the wonderful military. Let's just say that because of a very nice woman at Continental, and $843 later, Gorilla will be joining us 4 days later and minus a trip to Kauai. At least he still gets to go though.

In case I don't post before next week, I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. This is where we will be. No family, no turkey, no cranberry sauce or pecan pie. Just relaxation, beautiful scenery, bike riding, and lots of beer.

Dang, girl! I envy YOU! Hawaii! Nice!

I hear you on the workups, too. The submarine service, particularly J's boat, is notorious. :(

Hawaii sounds lovely! I'll take a palm tree over a Christmas tree any day! :)

And the training, grrrr. It doubles the deployment! My husband has not been home for an anniversary ever, and for a birthday in 2 years. :(

Like the new look!

Dude, the workup stuff has sucked hardcore for both of LT's deployments. Especially this last one, where he was stuck on the other side of the country for 3 months. Argh!

My number one recommendation to the powers-that-be is to improve the work-life balance of the time our guys aren't deployed, and you'll mostly solve your retention problem. People get out because they can't have a normal life, even when they're not deployed!

OK, end rant.

Can I say how jealous I am about the Thanksgiving and Christmas getaways? LT and I are hoping to sneak away somewhere warm and sandy sometime in the next couple months, but nothing concrete yet, since he still doesn't have orders for his next gig yet.

Have a great time in Asheville!

Hawaii! I'm so jealous. I'm a big fan of holiday getaways. Maybe one day Shawn and I will go someplace warm for Christmas. I would say next year, but you never know with the military.

Wow Hawaii?! Again...very jealous. If you don't post again before Thanksgiving, then I'll just say Happy Thanksgiving to you now!

You know..this might sound weird, but it's too bad you don't live around here, I think you'd be so much fun to hang out with! :)
